New Boilers Delivered for Lafayette School

New floors, ceilings and other improvements throughout district schools will be ready for the start of school.

Parents and students are not the only ones who need to get ready for back to school. Each summer, the has routine maintenance and special facilities projects to complete before class begins. According to the district's business administrator, Peter Daquila, "summer projects are proceeding as scheduled," with several projects completed already.

District-wide, each school will be fitted with . Installation on the system is ongoing throughout the school.

At , Daquila said the old boiler has been removed and has started installation work for the new boiler, which has already been delivered.

"We're actually getting three [boilers]," Daquila said. Three boilers are "ultimately more efficient, because ... how cold it is outside determines how many of the boilers you fire up in the building."

With three boilers, the district can alternate which boiler is used first to heat the building, "so you don't always use, say, boiler number one and never use boilers two or three," Daquila said.

Installation for the new boilers is on schedule and will be completed by the end of August.

Two classrooms at Lafayette were abated, with new floors installed. The installation is complete, Daquila said, and "the classrooms will be ready for the teachers and students" when school starts on Thursday, Sept. 6.

also had tile abatement in 10 classrooms, completed by the end of July, with new vinyl tiles installed. The installation was completed by Friday, Aug. 3, and Daquila said the classrooms should be open to the teachers by Aug. 15.

Tile abatement has also been completed in four classrooms at , and new floors will be installed this week. The classrooms will be open for staff by Aug. 22, Daquila said.

WAS also has three new water fountains similar to those at , which students can use to fill water bottles.

students will notice a new drop ceiling in the cafeteria when they return to school. A drop ceiling , one which will make a difference in ventilation and temperature control. The installation of the drop ceiling is currently in progress.

Throughout the schools, Daquila said, "numerous exterior and interior doors have been replaced" and "a new roof has been installed on the technology building."

Other summer maintenance includes deep-cleaning the classrooms, including the windows, blinds, walls and furniture throughout the district. Daquila said all routine maintenance has been completed.
