Milton Avenue School in Running for Blue Ribbon Award

One of nine schools in state invited to apply for national honor.

Milton Avenue School in Chatham is one of nine schools in New Jersey that has been invited to apply for the national Blue Ribbon award.

The award program recognizes schools where students perform at very high levels or where there are significant improvements in academic performance.

The school, one of three K-3 schools in the district, has about 390 students and is known as "the little school that makes a big difference."

"Marion McCarthy, the principal at Milton, received a phone call from someone at the NJDOE in December who shared that MAS was one of nine schools in New Jersey being invited to apply for the Blue Ribbon award," Superintendent Dr. Michael LaSusa said in an email. "I think it is very nice for the school and the district to receive that kind of recognition, and Ms. McCarthy has put together a team of people who will help with the application process."
