Matthew Fertakos Excels in Theater

Middle school student has played the lead role in a number of area productions

Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local soccer team take the championship?

They may be our next Patch Whiz Kids honoree. Each week, Chatham Patch seeks suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments.

Here's this week's selection:

Whiz Kid of the Week: Matthew Fertakos

Whiz Kid’s School/Church: Chatham Middle School, The Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township.

Whiz Kid’s Major Activity: Performing Arts

Whiz Kid’s Accomplishments: Matthew first became interested in the theater and singing at the age of 10, performing in church.  Since then he has become a featured soloist there.  He has also been in the plays at the middle school: "Charlie" in Willy Wonka, "Cogsworth" in Beauty and the Beast, and most recently "Rooster" in Annie. He was also in Oliver at Chatham Community Players.

Matthew is currently taking classes at Peachcraft Studios in Summit.  He is represented by Generation TV, and Innovations, both in New York City.  He spends a great deal of time riding the train to and from the city for auditions!

Whiz Kid’s Key to Awesomeness: “Stay confident, work hard, and follow your dreams.”
