Kenney Sworn in as New Board of Education Member; Four Candidates to Run For Two Township Seats

Elections take place April 20.

Township resident Lata Kenney was sworn in as the School District of the Chathams' new board member at a Board of Education meeting Monday.

Kenney replaces former board Vice President Lora Yates, who stepped down from the board in anticipation of her move away from the area. She has filled a township spot on the board and will serve out the remainder of Yates' term, which runs through 2011.

Last week, Board President Roger Rogalin said the board was planning on interviewing three candidates for the job. The board eventually selected Kenney.

Even though Kenney will serve on the board through next school year, there will be two new faces on the board when it reorganizes for the 2010-11 school year. No candidates filed by Monday's deadline to run against current board Vice President and borough representative Steve Barna, meaning he will serve another three-year term beginning next school year.

But Rogalin and board member Heather Turnbull—both township representatives—will step down when their terms expire at the end of the year, and four candidates have filed to run for those two spots. Both spots carry three-year terms. They are: John Nonnemacher, Matthew Gilfillan, Gregory Borsinger and Kenneth Aul II.
