Guida, Heidaran Power Chatham on Cougar Weekend

Cougars remain unbeaten as Failla returns as QB in victory over Boonton.

Senior Sammy Failla returned as quarterback in the third Cougar offensive possession of the game and it did not take long for him to get back in the groove with teammates Tommy Guida and Cory Heidaran as the Cougars defeated Boonton 28-14 on Cougar Weekend.

IN SHORT
Sophomore quarterback Tommy Guida started the game knowing that senior Sammy Failla was going to come back in following the injury that kept him out of the first two games of the season. Guida promptly set the tone for the game with a 67-yard TD run on the first play from scrimmage.

Chatham had scores from junior Vincent Ziccolella, and seniors Colin Brown and Cory Heidaran. Failla ran for a two-point conversion in the third quarter.

Boonton senior co-captains, quarterback Terrance Green and fullback Mike Reid, ran into a determined Cougar defense all night. Green and halfback Isaac Spaan accounted for the two Bomber TDs in the third quarter.

Guida had 98 yards on five carries and one TD; Heidaran had 52 yards on 10 carries and scored one touchdown.

Under the leadership of returning QB Sammy Failla and strong defensive pressure, the Cougars again demonstrated agility under pressure and the ability to make the big plays when they needed to.
