Girls Soccer Defeats Boonton in MCT

Cross country, tennis, marching band also enjoy success over the weekend.

How did your favorite sports teams do over the weekend?

On Friday:

  • The field hockey team defeated Bernards High 4-1 in Chatham.
  • The girls tennis team defeated Villa Walsh 5-0 in Chatham.
  • The girls soccer team was defeated by Ridge High 2-0 in Basking Ridge.

On Saturday:

  • The football team's undefeated streak ended when they played Madison.
  • The boys and girls cross country team competed in the Shore Coaches Invitational. The boys cross country finished in third place with 145 points, behind Red Bank Catholic School and Paul VI. The average time was 17:55. Results are below:

  • The JV team finished sixth with 209 points, and the freshman team finished 14th with 323 points.
  • The girls cross country teams also competed in the Shore Invitational on Saturday. The varsity team finished seventh overall. Results are below:

  • The marching band finished first in the Group 3 Opens on Saturday. The band scored 78.30 and swept all caption awards for Best Music, Best Guard and Best Percussion. The score of 78.30 was the highest score for the first half of the competition among 13 bands.

  • The girls soccer team defeated Boonton 4-0 at Haas Field in the first round of the Morris County Tournament. Kate Murphy was the game's sole scorer, opening the scoring with a goal in the second half that was "a quick turn and shot from fully 20 yards into the top corner of the net," according to Head Coach Chris Calveley. Liz Hyde and Lina Proska each had two assists, and Emily Hoffman and Meghan Downey ran the defense. Chatham progress to play Roxbury in the next round with a date yet to be determined.

Coming up on Monday:

  • Girls field hockey travel to West Morris Central High at 4 p.m. Transport leaves at 2:50 p.m.
  • Boys JV football team plays Madison at Cougar Field at 4 p.m.
  • Girls soccer travels to Dover High School for a 4 p.m. game. Transport leaves at 2:50 p.m.
  • Girls tennis plays Hanover Park High School in an away gaem at 4 p.m. Transport leaves at 2:50 p.m.

The NJSIAA has posted the grouping for the general classification sports. Chatham again will be in North Section 2, Group 3.

The Booster Club meets Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Chatham High media center.

All students interested in joining the fencing team can meet with Coach Chris Palmer at 2:40 on Wed., Oct 5 in the CHS cafeteria. Fencing is a parent-funded Varsity winter sport for both men and women. Prior experience is not required.
