District Officials: LAS Vice Principal Ready for Next Step

The accepted the resignation of Monday during its regular public meeting.

Interim Superintendent Dennis Fyffe said at Mountain Lakes' Briarcliff Middle School was "good news" for him, "though not necessarily for the district."

"He gave us five excellent years as assistant principal, and there is no question that he is ready to run his own building," Fyffe said.

Fleming's departure is effective Aug. 4. He was unanimously appointed to the role of principal Briarcliff Middle School in Mountain Lakes.

Fleming will replace the school's former principal, who died in April.

Tom Belding, the president of Chatham's Board of Education, said Fleming is "pursuing a very nice opportunity," and like  , who also resigned recently, "we can only presume they both decided it was the right time in their careers to make a move. It is also a tribute to Chatham, and our reputation," Belding said.

Other Resignations and Terminations

The board also approved the resigntaions of Allyson Goodstadt of , Elissa Cohen-Michel of and Stephen Fineman of . Fineman, a physics teacher, was also the coach of the which competed on MSG Varsity's "The Challenge" this year.

Robbin Boehmer, the secretary at Southern Boulevard School, also resigned, effective June 23. Margaret Keppler was approved as the new SBS secretary.

The board also approved the resignations of four paraprofessionals: Kathy O'Brien, Linda Nevoso and Alyssa Stockl, all of Washington Boulevard School, and Laura Piccola of Southern Boulevard School. In separate items, Piccola was approved as a non-tenured certified staff member of SBS and Stockl was approved as a teacher for the Extended School Year Program during the summer.

The board also approved the termination of Jeffrey Meano, a custodian in the district.
