Fan of the Week: John Failla

The former youth football coach for his son and his teammates now cheers on the boys each week.

Each week, Chatham Patch will feature one of the Cougars football team's biggest fans. We'll get to know each of them a little, and find out what makes them follow Chatham gridiron stars so closely. This week, we meet John Failla.

There's a special pride in having coached his son, Sam, and his teammates when they were in the Chatham Rec Football program from fifth through eighth grade. John Failla has seen these boys develop character on and off the field.

  • Who's your favorite Cougar: I like them all, but my son Sam, (senior) of course is my favorite. He's coming back after being out two weeks with an ankle injury, so hopefully he can get back in and resume his responsibilities as QB.
  • What has been your favorite Cougar moment: Since I've been involved coaching in the rec program with many of these players since they were in the fifth grade, I have to say that it is a good to see them get involved in the community and demonstrate comaraderie on the field.
  • What's your favorite concession food? Hot dogs—two each game. When we tailgate, we usually have wings and sandwiches.
  • What's the best part of a game that gets the least attention: I think the special teams don't always get the attention they deserve. Sometimes they are overlooked. Special teams can make a big difference in the game.
  • How long have you been attending games: More than eight years.
  • Craziest thing you've ever done as a fan: Well, once I do recall telling another fan, politely, that he should keep his opinions to himself.
