Two-Part Program by Chatham Borough Historical Society

Chatham Borough’s Historical Society will present a two-part program at the Library of the Chathams, 214 Main Street, on Sunday, October 16th from 2:00-4:00 PM.

The first program will be presented by Barbara Hall entitled, “Down the Dirt Road.”  Small town Main streets are changing.  Old buildings and houses are torn down or altered and sometimes restored or replaced with new structures serving new needs.  Recent events surrounded the building known as The Parrot Mill Inn, inspired Barbara to re-visit these issues and put together this presentation and slide show which promises to take us back to the ‘dirt road’ that was once Chatham’s early Main Street and examine the Borough’s growth through tracking its earliest buildings.

Chatham, Madison, and Summit joined together to organize an event like no other.  The “Sesquicentennial” (the 150th anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence), stirred up the residents pride for the contribution the local forefathers made towards procuring their country’s freedom.  As an audience of 10,000 watched, five hundred local citizens performed in the pageants.

All are welcome.  Refreshments will be served between the two programs.
