Pig Roast for Scholarship

PIG ROAST TO BENEFIT SCHOLARSHIP FUND

On Sunday, October 3, 2010, a Pig Roast will be held from 4pm until 7pm at 48 Rolling Hill Drive in Chatham Township, and it will be open to the public. The purpose of the event is to raise funds for a scholarship to be awarded by the Democratic Scholarship Committee of the Chathams (DSCC) in 2011 to a graduating high school senior from Chatham. The cost for the Pig Roast will be $20 per adult and free for children under 12.

A 500-word essay earned 2010 Chatham High School graduate Brian Cook a $1000 scholarship from the DSCC.  To earn the scholarship, Cook had to write an essay identifying his favorite politician and reasons for his selection.  Cook identified Newark Mayor Corey Booker, citing Mayor Booker's sincerity, his accomplishments for and commitment to the city of Newark, and the personal connection Cook felt with Booker after attending the New Jersey Boys State Convention in 2009.  Cook is now attending Wake Forest University.
