College Board Recognizes Local Hispanic Scholars

Three Chatham High students were named to the recognition program.

Three students from Chatham High School were named as outstanding scholars by the College Board's National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP).

Anelisa Arevalo, Matthew Claudio and Cathryn Jijon are among the nearly 5,000 students NHRP identifies each year from the US, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam, the Mariana Islands and the Marshall Isands, and any US students studying abroad.

Students must meet the following requirements to qualify as outstanding scholars in the NHRP program:

  • Take the PSAT/NMSQT® in October of the junior year and achieve the minimum required score (differs by state, region and territory)
  • Be a junior in high school.
  • Be of at least one-quarter Hispanic/Latino descent.
  • Earn a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher by the end of junior year (GPAs may be weighted).
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

The program sends a list of the students to colleges and universities interested in Hispanic and Latino students with strong academics.
