Chatham Ranks in Newsweek's Top High Schools

Newsweek released their list of best public high schools in the country, and ranked No. 183.

This year marks Chatham's return to the list—the high school did not rank on the list at all in 2011. In 2010, the school was ranked at No. 639.

Other area schools also ranked highly on the list, with Millburn High School the highest ranked open enrollment high school in the state at 83. Summit came in at No. 251, Livingston at No. 253, Glen Ridge at No. 255 and Madison at No. 276.

Rankings were calculated based on several criteria, including four-year graduation rate, college-acceptance rate, how many Advanced Placement (AP) and other high-level exams are given per student, average SAT and ACT scores and the number of AP scores offered per student.

According to the magazine, “this year’s ranking highlights the best 1,000 public high schools in the nation—the ones that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads."

And those acclaimed NYC schools, Bronx Science and Stuyvesant, both selective schools, ranked 50th and 66th respectively.
