Canton High School Principal Gary Gula Announces Retirement Plans

Educator has led Canton High School since 1995.

Long-time Canton High School Principal Gary Gula has announced he is retiring in June.

Gula took the helm of the then Canton Junior/Senior High School in 1995 and since 2003 has been principal exclusively for Canton High.

Gula worked at Wilton High School from 1976 to 1995, serving as a math, science and computer teacher before being promoted to dean of students in 1988.

For two years before his time in Wilton, Gula and his wife Deb taught in Australia, and took six months to travel in Asia and Europe.

The couple has three children and Gula's interests include photography, gardening, cycling and kayaking.

Patch plans to sit down with Gula at a future date for a reflection on his years in Canton.

Gary Gula has been a fantastic principal and a tremendous asset to Canton. He is involved with the students, kind, funny, patient and responsive. We were lucky to have his leadership in the high school -- and he will be missed. -- Andy and Kathy Szpekman
