Boys Lacrosse Moves On to State Tournament

Also, the girls golf and softball teams play in tournament games Tuesday.

The boys lacrosse team defeated Northern Highlands 9-2 on Saturday. The team now advances to the Group 2 finals against Summit on Wednesday at Ridge High School at 5 p.m. Those wishing to cheer on the Cougars can purchase tickets for $5 or $2.

Also Saturday, the girls softball team defeated Morris Catholic 2-1 in regular season play.

The boys and girls track teams participated in the North 2, Group II State Sectional Meet on Friday and Saturday in South Plainfield.

Jake Neumann won his second straight sectional title in the Discus event, tossing it 166 feet, 11 inches. Eric Drury placed fourth in the same event.

Stephen Bangs broke the Chatham High School record in the 400 meter intermediate hurdles running 56.56. The previous record was set three years ago by Corey Fauver. Andrew Mudgett placed sixth in the same event.

Anthony Malatesta set a personal best, running the 1600 meter in 4:28 and the 3200 meter race in 10:03. He placed sixth in both events.

Bangs, Charlie Zachariades, Mudgett and Pierre Pais ran in the 4 x 400 meter relay, finishing with a seasonal best of 3:29 and placing fourth in the event.

All these athletes will participate in the Group II meet at South Plainfield this Friday and Saturday.

Within the girls team, Katie Hurt finished third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:08:49.

Julie Williamson placed fourth in the 400 meter with a time of 1:00:34. She also placed sixth in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:21:99.

Olivia Michalak and Colleen O'Neill both set personal bests in the pole vaults with results of 7'6". They tied for eleventh place.

Kim Teschamacher and Lucy Wardley tied for 11th place in the long jump event with a result of 14'9.

Marie-Caroline Finke placed seventh in the triple jump with a result of 32'8.5".

Williamson and Hurt advance to the State Championship meet in South Plainfield Friday and Saturday.

On Tuesday, the girls golf team plays in the League Championship at Essex Fells Country Club at 1 p.m. Students will be dismissed from school at 12:30 p.m.

At 4 p.m., the girls varsity softball team travels to South Plainfield in the NJSIAA North 1, Group II Tournament. The team will be dismissed at 1:50 p.m. with transport leaving from Chatham High School at 2 p.m.

The Chatham High School Athletic Booster Club next meets at 7 p.m. on June 7 in the CHS Media Center.
