BOE to Vote on LaSusa for Superintendent

If approved, former co-principal of Chatham High to head the district next year.

The of the School District of the Chathams will vote Monday night to appoint Michael LaSusa as the district's superintendent.

If approved, LaSusa will assume the role effective July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2016 at a salary of $167,500 per year.

Board President that an advertisement for the position was posted internally within the district and a single candidate submitted an application.

When the board decided to hire Dennis Fyffe as the interim superintendent for the in April, then-Board President Steve Barna said he would mentor LaSusa to permanently take over the role.

LaSusa was made assistant superintendent for the district in 2010. Prior to that, he was a co-principal at with Darren Groh. His career path mirrors that of O'Neill, who was also a principal at Chatham High before becoming assistant superintendent and superintendent of the district.

Belding and LaSusa did not immediately respond to requests for comments Sunday evening.

A New Meeting Place

The board meets at in the All-Purpose Room Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the first stop on a district-wide tour.

The plan to hold board meetings at different schools in the district has been under discussion for several months. Board members said members of the community who may not be able to attend regular meetings at the might find it easier to attend meetings at their neighborhood schools.

Action Items

Also up for approval by the board on Monday is a motion approving the retirement of Elizabeth Passomato, a secretary at , and a motion approving the contract for Alexis Korak as the new director of the Athletics Department at Chatham High. Cindy Eager is also up for a position in the Athletics Department, "as assigned" for athletic events.

Five student teachers are also up for approval for the spring semester, according to the agenda. The student teachers, along with their respective classes and home universities, are:
