Academic Team Bests Piscataway in 'Challlenge'

The team now moves on to the third round.

The Chatham High School academic team defeated Piscataway in the second round of MSG Varsity's "The Challenge," in .

Stephen Fineman, the team advisor, said the first three rounds of the team's match against Piscataway "were incredibly close" and "buzzer reflexes won out on every question."

In the last round, things started to go Chatham's way. "Chatham won all four 10-point toss-ups (one for each member of our team) and converted seven of the eight 15- and 20-point bonus rounds.

The episode aired Thursday on March 15 at 6:30 p.m. on MSG Varsity, an Optimum channel, or at www.msgvarsity.com. Fineman said the team was taping their third round match against Manalapan. "We may not make it home in time to watch [the episode]," Fineman said Wednesday.

Five members of the team—seniors Michael Lovito, Parker Dixon, Julie Messing, Adam Rosenzweig and Joseph Slamm—were selected from a tryout in September. They answered questions in the style of "The Challenge" to show off their accuracy, recall abilities and speed in "buzzer reaction," according to a statement prepared by Fineman.

The Chatham High team in November, the academic team is ready for their next appearance on MSG Varsity's "The Challenge."
