2nd-Half Surge Leads Chatham to Opening Victory

Sophomore Tommy Guida steps in at QB to lead Chatham in a dramatic win vs. Hackettstown.

Chatham came out on Friday night with a twist. Sophomore Tommy Guida, younger brother of the Cougars' 2010 quarterback Nick Guida, stepped in big time for injured quarterback Sammy Failla to lead his team to a come-from-behind win over the Tigers 28-14 to open the 2011 season.

A 73-yard touchdown pass from Guida to senior running back Cory Heidaran got the Cougars on the scoreboard in the second quarter and that got the momentum going for two more scores in the third quarter. Guida added a rushing touchdown in the fourth.

THEY SAID IT

"In the first half we couldn't make the calls we needed to on the field. Our headsets weren't working. But the guys up top did a good job making some adjustments. We came out in the second half better, and this week we'll be working on how to improve on our mistakes and our blocking assignments. We'll get it done."–Chatham Head Coach Don Morgenroth
