25 Chatham Students Commended as National Merit Scholars
Students were among 34,000 students recognized for their exceptional academic promise.
Twenty-five students from Chatham High School were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) for their outstanding scholastic achievement and high scores on the PSAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
A Letter of Commendation from the NMSC, which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to these scholastically talented students.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. The commended students placed in the top five percent of over 1.5 million students who entered the 2013 competition by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

An NMSC spokesperson said “The young people recognized as Commended Students represent some of the best and brightest minds in the country as demonstrated by their outstanding performance in our highly competitive program. We sincerely hope this recognition will provide them with additional educational outlets and motivate them in their pursuit of academic achievement.”
The students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, though some of these students do become candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
