Work Ongoing at Shunpike Field, Lafayette Avenue

Township has also received a $5,000 grant from New Jersey American Water.

Work continues to go on at two township sites: Shunpike Field and Lafayette Avenue.

Contractors are working to turf a field at the Shunpike complex, and are repaving the township stretch of Lafayette Avenue (between Shunpike Road and Southern Boulevard).

Township engineer John Ruschke said at a township committee meeting Thursday that work is ongoing at both sites. The Lafayette Avenue work must be complete by the beginning of September so it does not interfere with school.

Ruschke said he will soon receive a construction schedule from the contractor that will detail how the work will be done by the end of the summer.

At Shunpike, a contractor has depleted its source of fill, so it must look for a new source. It had previously been looking for the now-depleted source of fill for quite some time. Because of that, it might be some time before large-scale work on the project begins again in earnest.

In other business, the township has received a $5,000 grant from New Jersey American Water. The grant will be presented to the township's environmental commission, and officials from the water company and from the township are expected to be in attendance.
