Vaughan, Wecker to Run for Mayor, Council

Vaughan will run for a second term as mayor; Wecker seeks first term.

Nelson Vaughan will run for a second term as mayor of Chatham Borough with Marcy Wecker as a running mate on the Democratic ticket.

Ed DiFiglia, the chairman of the Chatham Borough Democrats, confirmed that Vaughan and Wecker will run together. "We're excited to have a mayoral and council candidate running," DiFiglia said.

Vaughan and Wecker will formally announce after the filing deadline on April 11.

Bruce Harris, who confirmed Friday that he will also run for mayor on the Republican ticket, said he looks forward to "lots of opportunities to discuss our visions for Chatham."

Wecker currently serves as the chairman of the Community Garden Committee. Vaughan was elected as mayor in 2007 and currently serves as a liaison to the Library Board of Trustees, the Municipal Alliance Committee, the Public Arts Council and the Senior Center of the Chathams.

Vaughan did not wish to comment at this time. Wecker did not immediately respond to requests for comments.

The primary election will be held on June 7 and the general election will be on Nov. 8.

"The 26th legislative district has a number of other candidates that are also in the early part of their campaigns," DiFiglia said. "We intend to have a full slate of candidates from state senator down to town councils."
