Township to Consider Dismantling Colony Pool Clubhouse

Facility is currently used for paddle tennis.

Township committee members said the committee may consider getting rid of a clubhouse near Colony Pool that has fallen into disrepair.

"I do think it's something we need to put on the agenda to take down," Mayor Nicole Hagner said.

The clubhouse, as Township Administrator Thomas Ciccarone described it, is "a bit of an eyesore." It is currently used for the township recreation department's paddle tennis program, and there are about 24 participants who play the sport there.

Ciccarone said he hopes the township will choose to dismantle the decaying facility once the paddle tennis season is over. If it stays up, Hagner said, it would need potentially expensive repairs.

And Ciccarone said the committee would have to consider how much money it wants to spend on a facility that is used by only 24 people.

But committee members said that should not be done before the implications of doing so are considered.

"If we're going to take it down, we have to have a plan as to what we're going to do," Deputy Mayor Kevin Tubbs said.

Committee member William O'Connor said the board had talked about potentially using the space as a small community center. He said it could also think about building a small indoor pool on the site.

Such ideas would be far off if they were to happen. The committee will soon consider whether it will modify pool fees for the upcoming year, and will also wait for the borough to discuss its findings from a survey it recently conducted regarding renovations of its Memorial Park pool, before it jumps to any conclusions on the matter.
