Township Tree Committee Looks to Make a Return

Of the municipal boards in Chatham Township, one still needs to find volunteers to meet the necessary quota.

The Tree Advisory Committee has not met in several years due to a high number of vacancies.

“I know we’ve had some interest from people who want to reformulate the Tree Committee," Mayor Nicole Hagner said, "but we're not going to reform that board unless we have enough people.”

When three trees were cut down at in December 2010 as part of a drainage improvement project, several residents, including Chatham Patch contributor Janice Coviello, said the township needed the Tree Committee back and offered to join.

However, without sufficient volunteers, the committee will sit vacant for another year.

Other boards with vacancies to fill are the Board of Health, the Environmental Commission and the Colony Pool Advisory Committee.

"We want all of our residents to get involved. Everybody has different skills," Hagner said. "If you’re interested and you have a knowledge, … that’s all a benefit to us."
