The Chathamite's Guide to Primary Elections

Polling places, candidates and other information for Primary Day.

Tuesday is Primary Day throughout New Jersey. Before you head out to vote, here are some things you need to know:

I am a township resident. Whom can I vote for?

, , and are the four Republican candidates running for two available seats on the Chatham Township Committee. No Democratic candidates are running, which means the two candidates with the most votes on Tuesday will sit on the committee beginning next January. Furbish and Bailey are running together, as are Abbott and Ali.

Township Mayor Nicole Hagner has her name on the ballot to represent the newly reformed 27th district in the State Assembly. Hagner, a Republican, is running with Lee Holtzman (R-Livingston) for the chance to represent the 27th district.

Three democrats are also running for the Assembly seat. Incumbents John McKeon (D-West Orange) and Mila Jasey (D-South Orange) compete against Ellen Steinberg (D-Short Hills) for their names to appear on Democratic ticket in the general election.

I am a borough resident. Whom can I vote for?

Chatham Borough residents have an uncontested municipal and state primary. In the general election in November, they will vote for Borough Mayor and for seats on the Chatham Borough Council. Nelson Vaughan (D) and Bruce Harris (R) are running for mayor; Marcy Wecker (D), Gerald Helfrich (R) and Jim Lonergan (R) are running for seats on the council.

Borough residents will also vote in November for their state senators in the 21st district, which they recently became a part of. The two candidates are Paul Swanicke (D-Warren) and incumbent Thomas Kean Jr. (R-Westfield).

When can I vote?

Polls throughout the state will be open between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.

I am a township residents. Where can I vote?

Poling places by district are listed below, with their addresses and telephone numbers:

  • District 1 residents vote in the truck bay at the Green Village Fire House, 529 Green Village Rd., (973) 377-7073.
  • District 2 and 4 residents vote in Webber Hall at , 525 Shunpike Rd., (973) 377-2255.
  • District 3 and 5 residents vote in the gym at , 234 Southern Blvd., (973) 635-0070.
  • District 6 residents vote in the all-purpose room of the , 58 Meyersville Rd., (973) 635-4556.
  • District 7 residents vote in the court foyer of the , 58 Meyersville Rd., (973) 635-4600.
  • District 8 and 9 residents vote in the all-purpose room at the , 495 River Rd., (973) 635-8061.
  • District 10 residents vote in the all-purpose room at the Briarwood Coachlight Club House, 235 River Rd., (973) 635-8164.

What should my polling booth have?

According to Chatham Township Clerk Gregory LaConte, each township polling both should have:

  • A map of voting districts
  • Polling places/phone numbers
  • Black pens or pencils
  • Pads
  • Scotch tape
  • Scissors
  • Paper clips
  • Elastic bands
  • String
  • Large-eyed needles
  • Tacks
  • Date stamps
  • Stamp pads
  • Township of Chatham stamp
  • Black marker

I am a borough resident. Where can I vote?

  • District 1 and 3 residents vote in the gym at , 16 Milton Ave.District 2 residents vote in the meeting room at the , 1 Firehouse Plaza
  • District 4 and 9 residents vote in the main room at , 480 Main St.
  • District 5 and 7 residents vote in the gym at , 102 Washington Ave.
  • District 6 and 8 residents vote in the gym at the , 21 Lum Ave.
