Shunpike Field Not Complete, Not Behind

The contractor for Shunpike Field still looking for fill sites and material.

Construction delays at Shunpike Field continue, Township Engineer John Ruschke told the Township Committee at Thursday night's meeting.

The contractor, Fredco, had some trouble finding fill for the field that is "acceptable," according to Rushke. This shortage has caused a delay, but work continues on underground utilities and storm drainage, Rushke said Thursday. Fredco expects to start work on the electrical conduits shortly and has one pserson dedicated to finding a fill site.

At this time, Fredco expects to complete the project on time, but on a reduced construction period.

Rushke stressed that, "from a contractual perspective," the contractor is not behind schedule. All construction work is expected to be complete by the end of November.

A grass field that is being revamped at the site is required to sit for a year before it is used, so that is still anticipated to be ready by fall 2011, according to a Township Committee meeting in August.
