Borough Voicemail Function Goes Down

The Chatham Borough municipal phones is experiencing "trouble" Friday, police say.

The said telephones at the are having "technical difficulties" Friday.

In the process of updating the telephone system to the municipal building, certain functions of the phone system have gone down, police said.

Telephone lines are still operational and residents can continue to call during normal business hours, according to police, but the voicemail function is no longer working.

According to an email from Police Chief Philip J. Crosson, voicemail will likely stay down until Wednesday.

"We will make every effort to receive all incoming calls in the interim and we do appreciate your patience," the official borough statement reads.

The problem extends to the Chatham Borough Police Department. Calls to the department's (973_ 635-8000 number will be answered by the Morris County Communications Center.

According to the statement from Crosson and posted on the Chatham Borough website, 9-1-1 services are not experiencing an interruption and will not be affected by this issue.

Calls to the Chatham Police Department will continue to be received by the Morris County Communications Center for police matters; however the police department is also without voicemail capabilities.  There is no interruption to 9-1-1 services so emergency calls are not affected by this temporary interruption.
