Primary Day is Tomorrow: A Guide to What You Need to Know

There are no contested local elections in the Chathams, but there are competitions in countywide races.

Primary day is tomorrow throughout New Jersey, but none of the local primaries in the borough or the township will have an effect on who appears on the general election ballot.

There are two Borough Council seats up for re-election, and there are two Township Committee seats up for re-election. But because there are no more than two people on the ballot for each party in both the borough and the township, everyone on the primary ballot will remain on the general election ballot in the local races.

Even though the primaries are uncontested, the ballots could change before the November election. Independent candidates have until Tuesday to file petitions to be on the general election ballot.

The seats of Republican Council President James Collander and Independent Councilman Joseph Marts are up for re-election. Each carries a three-year term.

Collander is running for re-election on the Republican ticket, but Marts has announced he will not seek another term.

Collander will be joined on the Republican ballot by Victoria Fife. Anna Tivade and Brian Perez are on the ballot as Democrats. Since there are no more than two people running for the two seats in each party, the primary is uncontested.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The polling locations are as follows:

- District 1 and 3 residents vote in the gym at Milton Avenue Elementary, 16 Milton Ave.

- District 2 residents vote in the meeting room at the Chatham Borough Firehouse, 1 Firehouse Plaza
