Post-Storm Pick-up Progresses through Borough

The Chatham Borough Council will also address Mayor Nelson Vaughan's resignation.

According to the agenda for the the Nov. 14 Chatham Borough Council meeting, Borough Attorney Joseph Bell will also address the r from the remainder of his term.

Bell sent a notice to the members of the council in the wake of Vaughan's resignation outlining the process for finding a new mayor. Without a sitting mayor in place, the council president, James Lonergan, is the acting mayor. Should Lonergan be unavailable to serve, the members of the council serve as acting mayor, starting with the longest-serving member. Bruce Harris, the mayor-elect, is the longest-serving council member.

The Chatham Borough Democrats have submitted three names — Nicholas Eck, Marcy Wecker and Douglas Herbert — to fill Vaughan's term. The council has 30 days to interview each candidate and decide whom should fill the position.

Lonergan was out of town when Vaughan resigned. He told Chatham Patch he would reserve comment until the council meeting.

After an early snowstorm brought branches and trees down throughout Chatham Borough, the Department of Public Works (DPW) has collected yard debris from throughout the town.

The DPW is working from the southern-most streets in town to the north, as this map, released by the borough, shows. The map is color-coded to show which streets the DPW collected debris from on which days. There is none shown for Friday, Nov. 11, as this was a federal holiday.
