New Home Décor Store Opens Thursday in Borough

Quartet boasts a mix of functional and decorative accessories in a variety of styles from contemporary to eclectic.

Quartet, a contemporary home décor and gift store, is set to open this week just in time for Chatham’s annual Ladies’ Night Out.

“It’s one-stop shopping for people no matter what design or decorating style they have,” says Vicki Anello, one of Quartet’s owners, who adds that the shop boasts an affordable mix of modern, traditional, zen and eclectic goods.

Located in downtown Chatham, Quartet specializes in functional accessories for the home such as accent furniture, lamps, clocks and mirrors. There is also a wide selection of vases, bowls, trays, candles, frames, pillows and artwork.

Quartet’s four owners, Vicky Anello, Amy McGrath, Kim McManus and Jennifer Terry, have been friends for 20 years, when they met while working at Accenture. They all eventually settled with their families in Chatham and a year ago decided it was time to merge their talents and start a business.

“We have a varied mix of design styles so we can keep things fresh and different,” says Anello, who explained that they also have different talents from project management to design flair.

One of the fresh ideas is to feature items designed or made by women, including some Chatham locals. Papers by Gin notepads (Ginny Icart), monogrammed wine totes and cosmetic bags by S.Strong Designs (Stephanie Krauss), Little Birdie Design jewelry by Tracy Ness, Kris Creations florals by Kristine Nappa and hand-painted and textile art by Maryland artist Kathy Young are already part of the Quartet shopping experience.

“As female small business owners, we feel it is important to support other women who are in business,” says Terry. In order to do that, Quartet has created its “Momtage” concept. Through Momtage, Quartet will partner with complementary women-owned home-based businesses and integrate their product lines into the store. “We feel it is great way to give home-based businesses a venue for their products.”

The owners hope to appeal to shoppers who are looking for a different vibe that is not totally traditional. “Quartet appeals to people who are looking to refresh their homes with interesting pieces,” says Anello, who adds that the shop offers gift packaging as well.

Quartet chose its location near Main Street (9 South Passaic Ave.) because the owners wanted a space close to the town center and parking. “The town has been great,” says Anello, who said the Quartet team waited until the right location turned up. “
