Law Could Ban Parking on Portion of N. Passaic Ave.

Two ordinances up for adoption to address parking concerns near library and Memorial Park.

Two parking ordinances for North Passaic Avenue are up for second reading and final passage into law Monday at the  meeting.

According to the council, the start of summer makes parking at the and Memorial Park difficult to find. Residents who wish to visit the pool, park, library or downtown area cannot find vacant parking spaces, while residents and council members also reported seeing the same cars parked in the area for hours at a time.

The first ordinance will prohibit parking at all times on the eastern side of North Passaic Avenue from Main Street to Memorial Drive and from Memorial Drive to Weston Avenue.

The second ordinance will create a parking limit of three hours, or 180 minutes, for the pull-in parking spaces along North Passaic Avenue. The spaces were added as part of the improvements to .

The council will also vote on a resolution awarding a drainage improvement project along North Summit Avenue to S and L Contractors, LLC of Berkeley Heights. According to the resolution, the borough received three bids for the project, with S and L submitting the lowest responsible bid of $22,390.

How does eliminating parking on North Passaic Ave free up parking for the pool and the library? Where are you going to put more parking for the train, which is what your are talking about, with the same cars parked in the library lot for hours. It sounds more vindictive than problem solving to me.

Maybe it's time for that parking garage. *gasp* SOMETHING must be done to create MORE parking and not eliminate parking spaces.
