Low Turnout in Borough Polls

Few polling places had more than 20 votes cast as of noon Tuesday.

Chatham Borough polling places showed low turnout during the primaries Tuesday morning.

As of noon, District 3, the largest district in the borough, showed 15 votes cast total, 14 Republicans and 1 Democrat. District 1 had 23 votes cast in the election, 12 Republicans and 11 Democrats. Both districts vote at .

At , Districts 4 and 9 showed 12 and eight votes, respectively. Nine voters from District 5 cast their ballots by noon, and 19 voters from District 7 had voted by the same time. Both district 5 and 7 vote at .

Election workers attributed low turn-out to the uncontested primary in the borough. The borough also has no legislative race this primary, though .

Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen is running unopposed to keep his seat in the US House of Representatives this primary. He will face Democrat John Arvanites in the general election in November.
