Lone Bid of $50,111.11 Buys Chatham Street Lot

Bid placed by neighbors who live next door.

The lone bid on a vacant, borough-owned Chatham Street lot was placed by the people who live next door.

The Morrisseys submitted the bid of $50,111.11 on Thursday, borough clerk Susan Caljean said. The minimum bid for the 0.172-acre property was set at $50,000.

83 Chatham Street was the first lot put up for sale since borough officials identified six lots owned by Chatham that no longer are needed for public use.

The lot will "be deed restricted from the development of any principal building or structure," according to a notice about the planned sale. Neighbors had said the lot wasn't suited for a home.
