Library Hosts Four Courses for Job Seekers

Training sessions will help with everything from PC basics to Internet job hunting.

In an economy with over 9 percent unemployment, offers some help to job hunters.

Reference Head Jay Chatterjee said the library offers numerous databases and practical career guides through their website, including occupation practical tests and workplace improvement skills.

"These are the times that I think we have a greater responsibility to help people," Chatterjee said.

Beginning Monday, the Library of the Chathams will host a four-session crash course for job seekers. The courses will be taught by a staff member from the County College of Morris and are free to the public.

Each session runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The sessions will cover the following topics:

  • Monday, Sept. 19: Class 1 – PC Basics, Windows 7 Overview
  • Wednesday, Sept. 21: Class 2 – Internet Job Searches (accessing different websites)
  • Thursday, Sept. 22: Class 3 – MS Word 2007 (composing and editing your resume)
  • Friday, Sept. 23: Class 4 – Email

Sessions are limited to 10 people and participants are asked to sign up for all four sessions. The library will provide computers, so all participants need to bring with them is a flash drive.

 

Registration is required for the sessions. Anyone interested in taking the course should call the library at (973) 635-0605 or sign up at the Circulation Desk to register.

The courses are made possible by a grant from the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program by the New Jersey State Library.
