Hagner Leads Uncontested Township Committee Race

The incumbent mayor received 531 votes, while Committee Member Robert Gallop won 493.

UPDATE: 11:26 p.m. Township Mayor Nicole Hagner received the most votes in an uncontested primary for two Township Committee seats Tuesday.

Hagner received 531 votes, while incumbent Committee Member Robert Gallop garnered 493. The two ran on the Republican ticket and were not challenged by any other Republicans or Democrats.

Because they were the only two running, they will both advance to the general election in November.

The vote totals are not yet official, since absentee ballots still need to be counted. They will likely be made official in the coming days.

According to the Star-Ledger, Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen defeated Richard Luzzi in a GOP primary in the state's 11th congressional district, garnering 78 percent of the vote. In the township, he received 525 votes, while Luzzi got 114.

The Star-Ledger also reported that borough resident Douglas Herbert won the Democrats' primary in the district, winning 71 percent of the vote over James Kelly. In the township, he received 96 votes and Kelly got 30.

Township vote totals were made available for the Republican county freeholder and sheriff primaries. The Daily Record reported incumbent Douglas Cabana and challengers Ann Grossi and Frank Mastrangelo appear to have won their party's nominations for the freeholder positions.

Eleven Republicans ran for three freeholder seats, and three challengers garnered the most votes in the township. Grossi, John Krickus and Mastrangelo received 278, 240 and 225 votes in the township, respectively.

Challenger Christine Myers received 213 votes and was followed by the three incumbents in the primary. James Murray, Jack Schrier and Cabana received 161, 143 and 137 votes, respectively. Joseph Sirvent Jr. won 79 votes, Gary Steele received 72, Jason Cullen won 47 and Charles Germershausen received 31.

In the sheriff race, incumbent Republican Edward Rochford received 437 township votes, while challenger Steven Olimpio got 157.
