New Alerts Available for Borough Residents

System will be used to alert residents of emergencies.

Chatham Borough has instituted a new official alert system for emergencies called AlertChathamBorough, powered by Everbridge.

This new system has the ability to communicate with residents and business owners within minutes by cell phone, home phone, pager, email, fax or text. Residents can decide how they want to be contacted.

AlertChathamBorough can also be used to alert residents about other critical events in town, such as road closures, power outages, fires, floodings and local fairs.

AlertChathamBorough will use Morris County's 911 database to alert residents and businesses using a reverse 911 system.

Steve Williams of the Chatham Borough Fire Department said Everbridge is "a very, very robust, technically advanced program," Williams said, "separate and distinct" from Nixle.

Police Chief Philip J. Crosson said the system "also allows us to put out non-emergent messages," such as alerting residents of where warming centers will be located before a storm hits.

Mayor Bruce Harris said, "AlertChathamBorough provides a robust emergency notification that will allow us to communicate quickly, accurately and efficiently with residents when communication is critical."

Everbridge is provided by Morris County at no additional cost to municipalities.

Those who wish to sign up for AlertChathamBorough should visit the Chatham Borough website. Questions can be addressed to AlertChathamBorough@chathamborough.org.
