Candidates' Forum

LWV CMA Chatham Borough Candidate Forum. (2011)

 

Come meet, listen to and ask questions of the candidates for Chatham Borough Council at the upcoming candidate forum to be hosted by the League of Women Voters Chatham Madison Area.  The event will be held at 7:00 pm,  Monday, October 17th in the Council Chambers of the Chatham Borough Municipal Building, 54 Fairmount Avenue.

The voters will decide on November  8th who will be the Mayor for the next four years and who will fill  two seats on the Chatham Borough Council,  each for a three year term. Mayor Nelson Vaughan will be challenged by Councilman Bruce Harris for the mayoral position.   Bruce Harris will be stepping down from the Council and two candidates, Gerald Helfrich  and Marcy Wecker, will run for his seat.   Councilman James Lonergan is running to retain his current seat.

The format for the event will include opening and closing statements by the candidates and written and oral questions submitted by the audience members.  Dawn Clarke from the Union Area, a League of Women Voters trained moderator, will preside over the event.

 

The public is invited and encouraged to attend.  Voter registration materials and mail-in voting ballot applications will also be available.  The League of Women Voters Chatham Madison Area is a non-partisan organization whose primary purpose is to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation in government.  The League does not support or oppose any political party or candidate.  For information, call 973-665-0011.
