Elmwood Avenue Sidewalks Still Cause Grief

Resident receives two parking tickets in as many weeks.

When the sidewalks on Elmwood Avenue were installed in September, resident Duncan Robertson lost his parking spot.

Without a driveway, he told the Monday night that he has been ticketed for parking on the street.

"I am looking to the council to help me here," he said, holding out his second parking ticket in as many weeks. "I have no place to park."

Robertson said that a police officer came by and asked why he did not park in the driveway of his house. When he told the officer he didn't have a driveway, Robertson said, "He said, 'Well you should make one, and therefore we shouldn't be giving you any dispensation.'"

Bob Falzarano, the borough administrator, said that he had spoken with Police Chief Philip J. Crosson, who would discuss the issue with Robertson.

"Let's make sure that he does make that call," Councilman Len Resto said.

Robertson said he was willing to speak with Crosson but that the situation needed to be remedied, especially since he, along with other residents of lower Elmwood Avenue, against .

"This was out of my control," Robertson said.

Throughout last summer, residents of lower Elmwood Avenue came to Borough Council meetings and pleaded with council members to not go through with the project. They said they felt the Borough Council did not adequately consider other options to the sidewalk plan.

Logs from a tree cut down to make room for the sidewalk were with faces painted on them. The mouths depicted on the logs were open in what appeared to be fear.

The sidewalk was intended to alleviate congestion—and danger to young children walking home—along Elmwood Avenue between Milton and Weston avenues during the end of the school day at nearby .
