Daily Train Station Parking Fee to Increase

Parking in Chatham will cost 50 cents more in 2014; pay-by-phone option planned.

The daily parking fee at the Chatham Train Station will be 50 cents more starting in January.

The daily permit fee for 2014 is set at $5.50, according to a resolution passed by the Chatham Borough Council.

There are three new meters at the parking lot, and two other parking meters were rehabilitated, Borough Administrator Robert Falzarano said. Another two meters that weren't working well were removed.

The meters do not give change, so customers need to give exact change or lose the difference.

People who park in the lots also are expected to have a new payment option in the new year. Chatham is finalizing a contract with Parkmobile, which will enable drivers to pay the $5.50 daily parking fee by phone. Parkmobile would take a cut of 5 to 20 cents of the permit cost, Falzarano said.
