Committee Meetings Go Live on Comcast

Comcast customers can view the Chatham Township Committee meetings live on Channel 29.

Comcast customers in Chatham Township no longer need to wait until Saturdays to watch committee meetings on television, .

Tom Salvas, the volunteer who manages the governmental television access and a Chatham Patch contributor, said that the June 23 meeting of the Chatham Township Committee will be carried live over Comcast.

Until now, Salvas said the township would send DVDs of the meetings to Comcast, which would screen them on Saturdays at 3:30 p.m. and Tuesdays at 7 p.m. on Channel 280.

Starting Thursday, though, Comcast subscribers can turn to channel 29 to view the meetings live each second and fourth Thursday beginning at 7:30 p.m.

"As we move forward, we will develop a schedule for rebroadcasts of [Chatham] Township Committee meetings on channels 26 and 29," Salvas said.

Verizon FiOS customers have been able to watch the meetings live since 2009, and Salvas said the township hopes to be able to reach all cable subscribers in Chatham Township.

"We're [also] looking for volunteers to help in televising our Township Committee meetings and working on future program development," Salvas said. 

The committee in November, but several connection and audio issues plagued the endeavor. The committee announced on June 9 that in time for Comcast to carry the June 23 meeting live.
