Committee Candidate Calls for Increased Shared Services

Daniel Miller is one of three candidates for two seats on the Chatham Township Committee.

Daniel Miller said he wants to use his knowledge of Morris County beaurocracy and infrastructure to help bring increased services and savings to Chatham Township residents.

Miller can trace his family's roots back over 200 years in Chatham. He currently lives in what used to be his grandfather's house on Green Village Road with his wife Carol Ann and is a graduate of Chatham Township High School and a fourth-generation member of the Green Village Fire Department. He and Carol Ann have two adult children.

Miller has previously served on the Chatham Township Planning Board and is a former secretary of the Chatham Township Republican Committee.

For 25 years Miller has worked for Morris County, nearly 20 of them as a supervisor of roads.

His priorities, if elected, will be to increase shared services, especially with Morris County which takes about 18 percent of residents' property taxes; to make Colony Pool & Tennis Club more financially sustainable, perhaps through donations or private funding; and to keep the Chatham Township resident-friendly and affordable.

Miller's name is most widely recognizeable among residents for his role in lobbying for the market garden ordinance, which the committee passed by a 3-1 vote in 2012. A group of residents unsuccessfully sued the township to have the ordinance repealed.

Miller, along with Curt Ritter and Deputy Mayor Robert Gallop, is running for two available seats on the Chatham Township Committee. All three are Republicans.

The two candidates who win the most votes in the June 4 primary will go on to an uncontested general election in November and will take office in January 2014. The terms will last three years.

Miller has been endorsed by Mayor Nicole Hagner, Committeeman Bailey Brower, Sheriff Ed Rochford and former Freeholder John Murphy.
