Colony Pool to Open for Labor Day Weekend

Chatham Township said the water passed testing.

Chatham Township announced Friday that will open on Saturday for Labor Day weekend.

The pool will maintain regular hours on Saturday, Sunday and Monday before closing for the season. No cooked items will be available, and food at the snack bar will be limited.

According to a statement from the township, water in the pool "has passed all water quality testing and the Board of Health has approved opening of the pool."

The statement warns water quality will not be high because of the amount of dirt which eroded into the pool during Hurricane Irene.

Officials previously said the cleanup at Colony Pool would be s extensive they did not anticipate the pool to open again this season. Besides the erosion, a large tree also fell on the grounds.

The Chatham Township Committee approved the r to make way for a new drainage and filtering system in the pool. The system was installed to ensure water clarity. A fourth tree was also to be removed, according to the plans, but was cut down earlier due to rot.

Members of the Chatham Township Environmental Commission said as well.
