Codey, Two Republicans File for 27th District Senate Seat

Chatham Township mayor among candidates in Assembly race.

A pair of Republicans announced their candidacy Monday opposite Democrat incumbent Richard Codey for the Senate seat in the newly configured 27th district, while Chatham Township Republican Mayor Nicole Hagner plans to seek a spot in the district's Assembly.

Codey, a former governor from Roseland, along with Republicans William H. Earmes, of Whippany, and William Sullivan, of Essex Fells, filed for the district's Senate seat by Monday's 4 p.m. deadline.

Hagner, fellow Republican Lee Holtzman, of Livingston, Democrat Ellen Steinberg, of Short Hills, and Democratic incumbents Mila Jasey, of South Orange, and John McKeon, of West Orange, will vie for the Assembly seats.

Warren Democrat Paul Swanicke will challenge Republican incumbent Thomas Kean Jr., of Westfield, for the Senate seat in the 21st district, which now includes Chatham Borough.

Republican incumbents Nancy Munoz, of Summit, and Jon Bramnick, of Westfield, will be challenged by Democrats Bruce H. Bergen, of Springfield, and Norman W. Albert, of Cranford, for the district's Assembly seats.

According to the New Jersey Division of Elections, these are the final list of candidates as of Monday night at 10:30 p.m.
