Candidates Look Foward to November Race

Hagner, Collander led local votegetters.

The top-vote getters in local primary elections here Tuesday said they were pleased with the way things went and are looking forward to running good campaigns for November's general election.

Incumbent township Mayor Nicole Hagner led votegetters in the municipality with 554 votes, while incumbent borough Council President James Collander received 353 votes, leading all votegetters. Those vote numbers are final. Both were running in uncontested primaries. Further information on results appears here (for the borough) and here (for the township).

Collander said Wednesday he was content with how things went.

"I think we're happy," he said. "It was probably a light turnout, I suspect, as primaries can be, but I think it was good to get that many votes."

He noted that he has been instrumental in putting together the borough's budget for a number of years. All in all, he's been a member of Borough Council for six years.

"I look forward to the campaign," he said. "Hopefully, it will be based on the merits."

Borough resident Douglas Herbert won the Democratic nomination over James Kelly in New Jersey's 11th congressional district. He will face Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen in November.

Herbert said Frelinghuysen has not committed to working hard for the average American.

"While I am deeply grateful for all the support I have received thus far, the work has just begun. We must double our efforts, and dedicate ourselves to ensuring a new congressman is elected in November," Herbert said in a news release.

Hagner was not immediately available for comment, but we will add her comments here later tonight.
