Borough DPW to Conduct Water Flushing

The Water Utilities Division of the will begin flushing fire hydrants in town on Monday, April 23.

Flushing will continue through Friday, May 18.

The borough released a statement Monday saying residents should beware of brown, rusty water while flushing is ongoing. Any resident who sees dirty water should run the tap or flush the toilet until the water clears.

Should the problem persist, residents can call the Water Utilities Deptartment at (973) 635-0674 ext. 214

"Hydrants are flushed twice annually to keep our water quality at a high standard, and water mains clean," the statement reads in part.

The borough runs its own water service, unlike surrounding towns which use utlities such as New Jersey American Water to provide water to residents. Bills are sent out once a quarter, and also include sewerage fees.
