Borough Employees Lauded for Efforts During Sandy

Chatham Borough Council had sweatshirts made for two municipal employees.

Chatham Borough Councilman John Holman surprised Borough Engineer Vincent J. DeNave and Traffic Safety Officer Robert Sweetin with custom-made sweatshirts to thank them for their service during Tropical Storm Sandy.

"We were unable to recognize what role you [had]," Holman said during the meeting. "So we have a solution for that."

The sweatshirts say "Sandy 2012" on the front left corner, and "DeNave and Sweetin Electric" on the back.

DeNave and Sweetin were instrumental during and after Tropical Storm Sandy in getting the utility trucks where they needed to be. Sweetin escorted trucks around town so they would not get lost, and then roped off roads so the crews could work without passing traffic.

DeNave helped inventory damage in the storm and map outages in the borough. Both attended twice-daily meetings in the Chatham Borough Municipal Building to address storm recovery.
