Borough Administrator's Return Met With Applause

Robert Falzarano thanks public for their support, Chatham employees for their hard work.

Monday’s council meeting marked the public return of Chatham Borough Administrator Robert Falzarano – a return that was met with much applause and multiple well-wishes.

Falzarano had been out that led to hospitalization, surgery and .

Mayor Bruce Harris began the meeting by welcoming Falzarano back, a sentiment that resulted in a standing ovation from every person present in the room.

As the night progressed, residents took the time during public discussion to extend their well-wishes.

“It’s good to see you back,” Joseph Marts, a former mayor and councilman, said. “You’re a valued member of this organization.”

Falzarano thanked the mayor, council and members of the public during the administrator’s report for the support they have shown since April.

His voice then began to shake as he thanked borough staff for their work during his absence and Borough Engineer Vince DeNave, “who has been a really great friend.” DeNave had served as acting administrator since April.

“Chatham is a very unique and great, great town,” Falzarano said. “I thought that 11 years ago [when I began this job]. Now I’m totally convinced about it.”

Falzarano returned to New Jersey to receive further care after being released from Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock on May 25. He began working from home more than a month later.

The accident , the borough's deputy director of the . Falzarano's brother George was also wounded, as was the driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe that hit the three motorcyclists.

The three men were returning from a cross-country motorcycle trip at the time of the accident.

Great news! Welcome back Bob. You were sorely missed. I know the DPW leadership missed you! Now maybe with your return the DPW can start utilizing our very talented own people, instead of hiring ousiders and spending our tax dollars needlessly, on things like cutting grass, and road resurfacing!? Anyway I'm thrilled with your recovery. RIP Charlie.....
