Chatham Again Seeks Bids for Watchung Avenue Lot

First offer was below $275,000 minimum.

Chatham Borough-owned property at 57 Watchung Ave. is again for sale to the highest bidder after a previous attempt to sell the wooded, 0.2-acre lot didn't draw any bids above the minimum.

Officials determined the property is no longer needed for public use and will be offered for public sale by sealed bid to the highest bidder at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23.

When bids were accepted in November, there weren't any that met the minimum bid set at $275,000, borough clerk Susan Caljean said.

The minimum bid is the same amount this time.

Bids will be accepted by the borough clerk 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6., in the clerk's office at Borough Hall, 54 Fairmount Ave., according to a notice about the sale on the borough website (PDF).

The property comes with a bulk variance to permit a front yard setback of 19 feet along Girard Avenue where 30 feet is required.
