A Chathamite's Guide to the 2012 Primaries

One contested local election this Tuesday.

 

Tuesday, June 5 is Primary Day throughout New Jersey. Before you head out to vote, here are some things you need to know:

Where are the contested elections?

Between and , there is only one contested election this Primary Day, among Republcan candidates for the township committee.

Three Republican candidates are on the ballot for one available spot on the Chatham Township Committee. Joseph Contorno filed to run for the GOP nomination, but later declared he will not campaign for the role. and have actively campaigned for the votes of the 2,941 registered Republicans in the township.

I am a township Democrat. Whom can I vote for?

The township's 1,502 Democrats have only one name, Richard Erich Templin, to vote for in the primary race for township committee. Templin will run against the winner of the Republican primary in November to sit on the Chatham Township Committee.

What about in the borough?

Two seats are available on the Chatham Borough Council this fall. Len Resto and John Holman, both Republicans and sitting members of the council, are running unopposed for the two avaiable seats.

Michael Yodice is running as a Democrat, unopposed for a seat on the Chatham Borough Council.

What about county-wide elections?

At the county level, nine Republicans are seeking nomination for three of the Freeholder board's seven available seats, with only one incumbent running. The candidates are:

  • William Chedwidden, currently the Freeholder director, seeking a third term
  • John Cesaro
  • David Scapicchio
  • John Krickus
  • Ted Hussa
  • Jeremy Jedynak
  • Charles Germershausen
  • Alison Deeb
  • Ed France

Freeholder Gene Feyl's name remains on the ballot, but he has dropped out of the race. William "Hank" Lyon is running unopposed for one two-year seat on the board.

The following three Democrats are running unopposed for the Morris County Board of Freeholders:

  • Wasim Kahn
  • Joy Singh
  • Toshiba Foster

What about state elections?

The township sits in the 27th legislative district in New Jersey, and the borough Borough is part of the 21st legislative district. There are no elections for the districts this Primary Day.

When can I vote?

Polls throughout the state will be open between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.

I am a township residents. Where can I vote?

Poling places by district are listed below, with their addresses and telephone numbers:

  • District 1 residents vote in the truck bay at the Green Village Fire House, 529 Green Village Rd., (973) 377-7073.
  • District 2 and 4 residents vote in Webber Hall at , 525 Shunpike Rd., (973) 377-2255.
  • District 3 and 5 residents vote in the gym at , 234 Southern Blvd., (973) 635-0070.
  • District 6 residents vote in the all-purpose room of the , 58 Meyersville Rd., (973) 635-4556.
  • District 7 residents vote in the court foyer of the , 58 Meyersville Rd., (973) 635-4600.
  • District 8 and 9 residents vote in the all-purpose room at the , 495 River Rd., (973) 635-8061.
  • District 10 residents vote in the all-purpose room at the Briarwood Coachlight Club House, 235 River Rd., (973) 635-8164.

What should my polling booth have?

According to Chatham Township Clerk Gregory LaConte, each township polling both should have:

  • A map of voting districts
  • Polling places/phone numbers
  • Black pens or pencils
  • Pads
  • Scotch tape
  • Scissors
  • Paper clips
  • Elastic bands
  • String
  • Large-eyed needles
  • Tacks
  • Date stamps
  • Stamp pads
  • Township of Chatham stamp
  • Black marker

I am a borough resident. Where can I vote?

The borough's 5,874 registered voters can vote at the following locations, according to their districts:

  • District 1 and 3 residents vote in the gym at , 16 Milton Ave.District 2 residents vote in the meeting room at the , 1 Firehouse Plaza
  • District 4 and 9 residents vote in the main room at , 460 Main St.
  • District 5 and 7 residents vote in the gym at , 102 Washington Ave.
  • District 6 and 8 residents vote in the gym at the , 21 Lum Ave.
