Two Teens Issued Careless Driving Summonses in Separate Incidents

Chatham Borough Police responded to three motor vehicle accidents on Friday, July 8.

investigated three car accidents Friday afternoon, according to a press release issued Tuesday.

Main Street and Hillside Avenue

At 1:18 p.m., Officer Daryle Kelly responded to a motor vehicle accident at Main Street and Hillside Avenue, police said. His investigation revealed that Elisa Paras, 19, of Berkeley Heights was driving a 1996 Jeep on Main Street and attempting to turn onto Hillside Avenue when the light turned red, police said.

Paras backed up her car to avoid blocking the intersection, police said. When the light turned green she forgot that her car was still in reverse and backed up into the car waiting behind her, according to police.

The passenger of the second car, Teresita Rementilla, 61, of Union, and Paras did not report any injuries, police said.

Paras was issued a summons for careless driving, according to police.

Jumping The Curb

At 2:21 p.m. on Friday, July 8, Officer Michael Permison investigated a motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of on Main Street, police said.

His investigation revealed that a 17-year-old female Chatham resident was attempting to park her 2007 Honda when she stepped on the gas instead of the brake, according to police.

The vehicle jumped a curb and struck a tree, police said.

No injuries were reported and the driver was issued a summons for careless driving, according to police.

Summons Issued to Madison Teen

At 4:30 p.m. Friday, Officer Daryle Kelly responded to a two-car accident on Main Street near Brooklake Road, police said.

His investigation revealed that Julie Kravetz, 41, of Springfield was driving her 2010 Honda on Main Street when she was struck from behind by a 2011 Jeep driven by a 17-year-old male from Madison, police said.

Both cars were driven from the scene and the 17-year-old was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.
