Two-Car Accident in Township Sends Five to Hospital

The accident occurred at the intersection of River Road and Southern Boulevard.

A two-car accident early Friday afternoon sent five people to area hospitals, township officials said.

The accident occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m. Jim Pignatello, the chief of the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department, said one of the cars involved in the accident was transporting Merry Maids, and that several people involved were not wearing their seatbelts.

Pignatello described the injuries as "moderate."

Chatham Township Police and the Chatham Emergency Squad were also on the scene. All lanes remained open but fire, ambulance and police vehicles were parked on the scene with sirens on to urge caution to drivers.
