Truck Driver Knocks Out Power to Traffic Light

Borough police directed Main Street traffic for several hours Tuesday.

had to direct traffic Tuesday after a car accident knocked out the power to the traffic light at Main Street and North Passaic Avenue.

On Jan. 10 at 11:27 a.m., patrols responded to an accident involving a truck at the intersection of Main and Passaic, police said.

Patrolman Brian Maher determined a box truck driven by Timmy Wilson, 31, of Rochester, N.Y. ran off the road and struck an electrical box for the traffic light, according to police.

Power was knocked out to the traffic light at the intersection for several hours, police said.

Wilson stated he fell asleep while driving and lost control of the truck, according to police.

The state Department of Transportation responded to the scene to repair the traffic light, police said.

No injuries were reported and the truck was driven from the scene, according to police.

Wilson was issued a summons for careless driving and released, pending further court action, police said.

Car Accident at Watchung and Hillside

At 4:13 p.m. Tuesday, Patrolman Michael Permison investigated an accident on Watchung Avenue at Hillside Avenue, police said.

A 2007 Honda driven by Maria Miller, 47, of Summit, was stopped in traffic on Watchung when she was struck by another car, according to police.

The second car, also a 2007 Honda driven by a 17-year-old female from Madison, ran into the back of Miller's car, police said.

No injuries were reported, both cars were driven from the scene and no summonses were issued, according to police.
